Remedies for Nausea

When it comes to being pregnant, other than missing your monthly bill, one of the first signs is sudden onset nausea. It is not the Thai or the Mexican from last night; it is your little bundle of joy announcing his or her presence.

Luckily, there are many remedies for nausea; you just have to find the one that works for you.

Here are a few ideas to get you feeling like your old self again:

Ginger
For more than 2,000 years, ginger has been used to treat nausea in traditional Chinese medicine. It is still used nowadays to cure diarrhea, nausea and other stomach pains.

If you are facing sudden onset nausea, you can pop open a can of Ginger Ale, eat candied ginger, use raw ginger in cooking or drink it in tea.

Ditch Work
If you just cannot stomach the idea of Phil or Brian’s breakfast or lunch again today, and just the thought of going in to work churns your stomach, take the day off! You deserve a break now and then for growing a tiny human.

Lemon
The smell of citrus can help cut through the feeling of being nauseous to calm your stomach and calm you down too. Add a lemon wedge to your water or try essential oils for relief.

Peppermint
Like citrus, the smell of peppermint can help calm down your stomach and relieve that nauseous feeling. Stash some mints in your purse to curb nausea when you’re out and about and try sipping on some peppermint tea in the evenings.

Find the Right Foods
If things that you normally eat are just turning you off, go to the grocery store and pack your fridge with new foods that look a lot more appetizing. Just don’t go overboard when stocking up, the foods that look yummy this week may not look so good come next week.

Be a Grazer
Eating too much may kick up the nausea, and eating too little will allow the acids in your stomach to feed on its lining. Instead of sticking to three meals a day, do some grazing to keep your tummy a little bit full throughout the day, defend against the onset of morning sickness.
